THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN SOMETHING STRIKING TO ME ABOUT THE NOTABLE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE CONTRASTING COLORS OF BLACK AND WHITE. FROM CHILDHOOD, IT HAS SET MY MIND TO A VARIETY OF IMAGES IN SHAPE, FORM OR PATTERN (IE. MY LITTLE ITALIAN GRANDMOTHER’S BLACK HAIR AGAINST HER FAIR SKIN, MY FAVORITE POLKA DOT POLYESTER JUMPSUIT IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, 80’S PUNK, VINTAGE BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOS, A PERSON’S THOUGHT PATTERN,  ALFRED HITCHCOCK FILMS, FRENCH NEW WAVE, FASHION, TWILIGHT ZONE, A NEWBORN’S VISUAL PERCEPTION...TO NAME A FEW).

BLACK AND WHITE ARE THE EPITOME OF THE LITERAL DEFINITION OF THE WORD, CONTRAST. IN THESE WORKS I’VE ENTITLED, “CONTRAST”, I FIND MYSELF WITH A PASSION TO CREATE AND DEPICT THOSE MEMORIES, FEELINGS AND THE EVERYDAY IMAGES AND EXPERIENCES AROUND ME. SOMETIMES THE WORK FLOWS SPONTANEOUSLY WHILE AT OTHER TIMES IT IS PRECONCEIVED. I ENJOY CREATING MULTIFARIOUS WORKS USING A VARIETY OF APPLICATIONS WITH ACRYLIC, IMPASTO, LATEX PAINT, PENCIL, AND COLLAGE INCLUDING SOME FUNCTIONAL PIECES (LAMPSHADES, DRUMS, SKATEBOARDS).

MY INSPIRATION TO PAINT USING THESE TWO CONTRASTING COLORS OF BLACK AND WHITE ALSO MAKE UP THE THIRD HUE, SILVER, WHEN COMBINED. THIS TRIADIC COLOR SCHEME OFFERS HIGH CONTRAST WHILE RETAINING HARMONY. I MAY EXPERIMENT WITH A FOURTH COLOR AT TIMES, BUT CONTRAST WILL ALWAYS REMAIN THE FOUNDATION OF MY WORK. MY DESIRE IS THAT MY ARTWORK WILL STIMULATE, ENCOURAGE, AND LEAVE THE VIEWER REFRESHED WITH A NEW PASSION FOR LIFE AND ALL ITS CONTRASTS.
